Short answer: plan to start with light novel Volume 26
If the complete 19-episode Season 4 adapts Arc 6 through its expected ending, Volume 26 is the cleanest continuation point. Volumes 21–25 form the light-novel section centered on the journey to the Pleiades Watchtower, while Volume 26 begins the next major arc.
There is one important timing caveat. The official anime schedule divides Season 4 into the 11-episode Loss Arc, which began on April 8, and the eight-episode Recapture Arc, scheduled to begin on August 12. As of this update, the second part has not finished broadcasting. The official site confirms the 19-episode structure and the Watchtower story, but it has not published a statement saying, word for word, that the finale ends at Volume 25.

Official and confirmed: Season 4 has 19 episodes in two parts; its story travels to the Pleiades Watchtower; the novels are still far ahead, with Volume 45 published in June 2026.

Which volume should you buy for your situation?
- After the entire Season 4: buy Volume 26 if the televised ending completes Arc 6 as expected.
- For the safest transition: begin near the end of Volume 25. This preserves closing narration, internal thoughts and any scenes shortened for television.
- To read everything Season 4 adapts: begin with Volume 21.
- If you have only watched the Loss Arc: wait for the Recapture Arc or start from Volume 21; a precise mid-season handoff can change because scenes may be reordered.
Where Season 4 sits in the novels
Season 3 follows the battle in Priestella and reaches the material around Volume 20. Season 4 then sends Subaru, Emilia, Beatrice, Julius, Anastasia and Meili toward the Pleiades Watchtower in search of a way to restore what Gluttony stole. The official introduction explicitly names Shaula, the Augria Sand Dunes and the tower.
The reason a one-volume overlap is useful is not that the adaptation is unreliable. Re:ZERO depends heavily on point of view, failed loops, memory and information that a reader understands only after later revelations. A television adaptation can preserve the plot while compressing internal monologue. Starting with Volume 25 instead of jumping straight to 26 is therefore the best choice for readers who value continuity over speed.
Should you choose the light novel or the manga?
Choose the MF Bunko J light novel. Re:ZERO’s manga adaptations are produced as separate arc-based series and have not reached the material following Season 4. The novel is the original commercial edition and the only practical route if your priority is to continue immediately. Availability and numbering can differ by publisher outside Japan, so check the volume number rather than relying only on a retailer’s series page.
How likely is Season 5?
Our current editorial estimate is 75%. This is not an official announcement. No Season 5 production decision has been announced as of July 26, 2026.
The positive factors are strong: the franchise is celebrating its tenth anime anniversary, Season 4 receives a 19-episode production, global streaming distribution is broad, and the source material has a very large reserve beyond Volume 25. The main reason not to rate it higher is production scale. The next storyline expands the cast, locations and action demands, so even a successful continuation may require a long schedule. Treat 75% as a fan-facing editorial forecast, not a promise or leak.
Final recommendation
